I've not really added anything new
to the site since the New Year. There is a reason for this
beyond my natural laziness. My collection now numbers thousands,
not hundreds and contains as many Matchbox cars as Corgi with
Hot Wheels and Dinky not too fat behind. In total I now cover 56
makers. This website is no
longer the right technical solution to displaying such a large
collection and I am in the process of writing a database driven
site to display the full collection. I intend to cut this site
back to just the Corgi pages and to add a search engine to allow
users to find cars by Marque, Model, Toy Maker, year of car,
year of toy and a host of other criteria.
The application exists on my PC,
now I have to programme it for the web. Expect to see it by
Christmas '09 |
I've created this site for fellow die cast
toy enthusiasts to use as a
resource and to showcase my own collection. These toys and models are
not for sale. Mostly it is about Corgi Toys made from 1956
when the brand was first launched through to the late seventies when it lost direction and the models began to decline in quality,
there are some later examples but the absolute cut off date for accurate
cataloguing is 1983. The
Corgi collection is based on a book called 'The Great Book of Corgi' by
Marcel van Cleemput who was very influential at Corgi during this
period. Corgis from after this date are not shown chronologically
I also
have a growing collection of Dinkies, Huskies, Matchbox and a few Spot-on, Lone Star
and other brand models. These are
chosen for no better reason than that I like them. |

I recently rediscovered my
childhood toybox. It contains 67 very well worn die-cast
cars chucked into a Brooks-Beattie biscuit tin and left by
me in about 1970. Some of my nephews had their hands on it
in the interim, but in general it is a genuine collection of
toy cars from the 1960s. There are some Corgis and Dinkies
and the odd Spot-On, but mostly they are Matchbox and Husky
- smaller scale stuff. The entire collection is now
cataloged and available under the title link above |
When this
site was begun it was designed to be pure Corgi, and over time
focus has shifted. The initial idea was to be all about
Corgis in their heyday. However since then I've been
dripping in more and more other stuff and as a result
the layout is no longer looking logical. The Corgi
collection is neatly arranged in chronological order of
release, but it's not that easy to find other things, so
I'm looking at more user-friendly indexing - like this
on the 'Modern Collectables' page -
